Antique Pickers antique doll room box a treasure

Through the years I have been very fortunate to know many antique dealers.
Before the show , Pickers , was created , and before the Internet , antique dealers were actually pickers for their customers.
This blog is dedicated to a wise antique dealer that knew I collected antique toys.
He was very knowledgeable of fine antiques , not the usual.
His booth was filled with the most amazing luxury antiques such as sterling, gold, porcelain , antique pocket watches , and Tiffany.
Mike loved to sell. He knew I shopped the mall where his booth was located.
So, being a wise antique dealer, he had a little section in his booth with fabulous antique toys.
One day , he walked into the mall around the same time I did .  His face lit up with a huge smile as soon as he saw me . He looked at me as though he was Santa Claus with a toy so great , it had to be mine.
He said, " come on back to my booth , what I have in this box , will be shown to you before anyone ".
Now, that makes one feel really special , and of course , Mike the wise salesman that he was , knew I loved feeling special.
It was the room box in the photos. The room box was empty and through the years, I added pieces to it , to enjoy like a kid with a favorite toy.
These are seldom seen these days...the original room boxes are a joy to own.
Someday I will need to part with this wonderful item, and when I do, it will be listed in my Ruby Lane shop , because it is too special to my heart to sell at a local auction.
Sometimes, items such as this room box is treasured at first for the wonderful item it is.
As time goes on, the memory of the person that sold it to you
is more precious that the item itself.
Long live the memories of the old time antique dealers and cheers to wonderful shows such as " Pickers " to keep the wonderful world of antiques and collectibles alive

Youtube video madness networking secret have fun while marketing

Youtube is a tool that is fast approaching the status of more than just a crazy antics funny video site.
Many people are posting videos that gives visual instructions on how to do things or fix things.
Some are regular people and some are people representing a company such as home improvement companies.
It's much easier watching how to fix something, then read the instructions manual. My mind strays when I read instructions manuals .
But watching the instructions on a video , easy to learn and not boring , it's terrific.
I have realized I can create videos that show the items I have in my shop and/or collections.
And I can tell people about the items , a show and tell approach.
I love that concept.
I will admit , when creating my videos , I feel like a kid again playing anchor woman on the news shows.
Although creating the type videos I create take time and thought , from the writing of the script , to the back round layout and then the slide show photos, and then add music , it is time not only well spent , but enjoyed.
I now have a video channel that displays all my videos , and I am asking people to please subscribe.
After all, if I think my videos are good, I think you will enjoy them, not be bored.
As time goes on, I will improve on my video work and editing.
Which , by the way , I use Cyberlink's Power Director 9 , it is an excellent video editor. I am offering that as a tip , I am not being paid to mention them.
I plan on making more videos for home decor, fashions, jewelry , and , well, you never know what I might come up with next.
So , join the video craze and subscribe to my video channel.
In fact, start learning how to create videos yourself too.
The mind is a creative machine , flip the switch and be amazed at what you can do.
After all, if I can do it, you can too

On line shop adds color for home decor and fashion is a hit with shoppers

Recently Ruby Plaza , the sister site to Ruby Lane , encouraged their shop owners to offer items that are vintage to new. Offer items that appeal to everyone , not just the collector.
I decided to revamp my shop.
It's not the usual shop , instead, the items offered are selected to appeal to people searching for colorful fashion for themselves or their home decor.
Also , costume jewelry in lots are being added every week.
My shop  on Ruby Plaza is a new adventure.
My shop on Ruby Lane offers items antique to vintage that appeal to the collector. I am fortunate that it is popular shop with a good following of repeat customers.
RC Antiques Too on Ruby Plaza will eventually meet that status , and perhaps even surpass it.
It's the kind of shop that's eye candy to the shopper that enjoys browsing.
And the kind of shop for those who enjoy the upbeat styles for themselves or their home's decor will enjoy the good buys and free USA shipping , and they will come back , time and time again.
My shop reports reads RC Antiques Too is a hit .
Which proves that you really can learn new things.
Having a shop that is completely different than the shop on the sister site is a challenge and at the same time, fun.
So, stop in today and let RC Linda show you what's hot , what's hip , what's cool.
And you can be sure , RC Antiques Too is here to stay

Think green with a backyard haven for birds and Squirrels it's fun

I live on the entrance of the city of Hagerstown Md.
The front of my house is formal with the large pillars and so forth.
So, it's a huge surprise when people drive by and see into the back yard, which is a backyard wildlife habitat.
It's registered with the National Wildlife Federation, which is important when you live in an area like I do.
By posting that metal NWF sign , people will understand you are not eccentric . They realize you are allowing the dandelions grow in the backyard to help feed the birds.
They realize all the birdhouses are the kind for birds to actually nest in..in fact they are placed in areas to entice the birds to nest , and they do.
There are also Squirrel houses because most of the trees in my section of town are old and therefore cut down due to age, or, because the new occupants of the house do not want trees and birds.
It's been an adventure creating something like this in such a small space.
And now, people stop every Spring till Fall to see what I am putting up next.
It's my hobby.
The birds know my husband and I . The ones that migrate do come back every year and if not them, then, their off spring.
I have seen so many changes to the bird population here in the past 15 years.
The great Snowy Owl that once migrated to Pangborn Park down the hill from here ,  does not come back anymore because his entire habitat was paved over and houses built. I saw him before he left..It was a moonlit night , I looked up because I felt eyes upon me. He was beautiful , so truly beautiful with the pole light lit behind him. He looked down at me, I looked up at him...I knew it was the last I would see him, so as our eyes met , it truly was two friends saying goodbye...and I know that wise owl knew I would do my best to keep growing shrubs that birds etc could survive on and help the other animals that cannot find shelter anymore due to beautiful shrubs removed and replaced with pavement for parking.
The Crows' last refuge down the hill at Pangborn is gone now too. Their plight is not good , as they have flown to a professional offices section that has been developed over what was once a beautiful farmland...acres and acres of beautiful treed land with a lovely stream flowing by  , now gone.
So, yes, I have my sign up , and I am hoping those in my neighborhood will wake up and realize that bird that landed on their tree is very important.
If that sign , or my posts on the Internet causes at least one person in this world to open their eyes and actually see the birds for their beauty , then, maybe somewhere else in this world, that has a neighborhood like mine, will make a difference for these creatures too.
Join the 14 annual World Bird Count today.
And, if you do not have time , that's O.K.
Just open your eyes and see the beautiful animals and birds around you.
Brake for animals trying to cross the road. Most times , these days , they are crossing the road to escape land development...they are escaping trying to find a new home to live in.
They deserve life too.
We all share this planet together.
By helping the wildlife and going green by not using pesticides , we are saving the world.
Our home...their home....we only have one , keep it green , keep it wild
Your life will be better if you do, and that's a promise
