This post has nothing to do about vintage or collecting, instead, it's a question, or, something to help others realize a thought .
I love animals.
All animals.
However, I do not believe in horror graphics on TV, or on any site.
I unfollowed a wonderful person on Google + for graphics to show his point.
I have also unfollowed on of my favorite people on another site, whose intention were good, but also showed the horrific real photos of animals cruelty.
Now, here's my point.
The person behind the camera. How can the person who took the photos of such horror, proclaim to love animals?
A few years ago, a neighbor down the block watched as her sons threw rocks at a dear Squirrel in a tree. I was shocked, she is a den leader for scouts, and her sons are scouts.
Did I just stand there and take a picture to report it ?
No, I screamed so loud to stop it, that they did...and yes indeed, I went all the way down the block to tell them they should be ashamed of themselves.
Now, this lady is a big mean lady, that could have nailed me with a punch. And, I still confronted her because I was not going to see such cruelty happen in my neighborhood.
Next time you see a horrific photo, and my God, I hope you never see the photos I have just seen, remember, someone stood there and allowed that horror to happen.
They walked away....to get paid.
A real animals lover, could never walk away from the horror I just saw in real photo here on the net.
My challenge to all animal rights organizations is this.
You see animal cruelty as it happens, stop it..don't just show it and walk away and publish photos to get our money to support you.
I am writing this post in anger, shock and more than anything else, in defense of the animals the photographer did not try to save...instead, snapped a photo, and walked away.
Shame, shame on anyone that does that.

The Christmas Gift Grandfather's Voice from 1960's

I was very young when my Grandfather passed away in the 1960's.
But, I remember him so clearly.
My family has hearing problems, it's hereditary, passed from one generation to the next.
So, although I knew of this recording of my Grandfather's voice that was recorded in the 1960's before he passed away, I could never hear the recording enough to understand his words.
The little cassette tape of my grandfather's voice, is an interview for the local newspaper at the time, about the changes to wildlife in that area.
My brother asked me to find someone to change the cassette to a CD, so it can be kept for our future generations.
We called our grandfather PapPaw.
PapPaw's recorded voice was sent to Washington state to a small family owned business named, Media Locks.
PapPaw would have loved the idea of his recording being sent so far away.
The CD arrived today.
Like a child ready for a wonderful treat, I put my headphones on and listened to my Grandfather's voice.
It was the voice I knew so well, and I could hear the voices of the several generations since his passing, having that same old time twang.
PapPaw's recording is 40 minutes long. He loved to talk, strange to say that, when one of my most typed words on the net is, " I love to talk , always have ".
This voice, so raw, so country, brought back the memories of how people once talked.
The phrases that are no longer a part of today's language.
This morning, is my Christmas, thanks to that reporter all those years ago, giving my grandfather a copy of the interview.
To you who reads this blog, we are here but once, record your voice for your future generations.
They say, a picture is worth a thousand words, but it's the voice, the voice most really do take for granted.
May you heed my words so someday, 60 years from your recording, someone sits and listens to your words...your words spoken during your world, your era.
If you do this, you will be giving the most precious gift of all.
Here's wishing everyone on this planet we call Earth, a wonderful peaceful holiday.

Holidays make life fun.
I do most of my holiday shopping on line.
I will confess, the Black Friday midnight sales were very tempting here in Hagerstown Md, especially since Prime Outlets has a Kate Spade store.
Today is Dec 3rd.
Ruby Lane shop owners are having a Red Tag Sale.
This tradition began last year.
It was so successful, that it will now be a Ruby Lane holiday tradition, several times a year.
Ruby Lane shop owners have a Red Tag list.
1 to 59 items that is listed in their shops, is reduced 30 to 60 %...the shop owner decides how much they want to reduce each item, and which item they want to include in their sale.
I think it's a fabulous idea.
Unique, because each shop owner can tweet, FaceBook etc the link to their own Red Tag sale, or, they can do the link for the entire site.
It's fun, and it's saving money, time, gas, and well, no long lines at the check out counter either.

Collecting is Fun

Collecting is fun.

I think it is very important to collect what you like, not as an investment.

Today's world is so fast paced, that , one never knows what will be worth the dollars spent.

I can remember the days of The Cabbage Patch babies. People paid alot of money for those , and the those babies were hot for several years.

Whenever I have a house call to look at something someone is selling, it is always sad to see items collected because they were, at the time of collecting, a " hot " in demand item.

Don't let yourself be disappointed.

Enjoy your collections for what they are. And, when you are downsizing, or, have decided to collect something else, be glad you will get some dollars back for whatever you collected.

I collect many things. If I could get the money the books say they are worth, I would be sipping a tall cool drink in Hawaii right now instead of writing this blog.

I am writing this blog, because I have been downsizing my collections the past couple years.

Each item I have collected has brought me pleasure, and memories of the find.

If you approach collecting as a treasure hunt, you will enjoy the adventure of the find, no matter what it cost, and what you end up getting for it.

It's the hunt that makes collecting so much fun.

So, be a treasure hunter, and enjoy those finds, that's what collecting is really all about.

Antiques House Call and the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness story

When in the antique business for as many years as my husband and I have been, word spreads if you are a good buyer.

We always paid well for anything we would buy from people in their home.

If we were not interested in the items, we would give advice as to how to sell the item etc.

Through the years, we have had repeat house calls.

This blog is about a very important one.

She was a lovely very healthy young lady.

Her Mother collected antiques. When her Mother became ill with Lung Cancer, this wonderful young lady took care of her Mother till the end.

Her Father could not bear living in the family home, so, he called us to come to the house, buy what we wanted and advise as to what to do with the rest.

I remember that day clear as though it were only yesterday.

The daughter wanted to be sure her Mother's collection got the best attention possible.

We brought some things, and then gave advice on the rest.

A few years later, the daughter called us for another house call.

By this time, she had brought another home ( by the way, she was happily married to a wonderful man ).

She and her husband brought the home because it had a small apartment attached to it, which was where her Father moved to at the insistence of the daughter and her hubby.

Her Father had passed away, and again, there we were to give her advice and so forth.

By this time she had an adorable baby.

The next call was the following year. They were moving to the country.

She had boxes upon boxes of Mother's items stashed in the attic of this home.

She was attached to the items , because, after all, her Mother loved antiquing.

But, it was time to let go, especially since most of the items were not the type items one uses anymore or collects.

By this time, we felt as though this gal as ours. Her heart so devoted, so loyal.

Then, about 3 years ago, she called again.

We went to her country home. The baby had grown to be a sweet little girl, in elementary school, and a baby in the crib was one they hoped to adopt.

As we stood there in the foyer, looking at the things she was going to sell, we noticed she was parting with things that were not antique, as though making room for another project.

We joked with her about it, and then, it was though time stood still.

She looked at us, and said, " Well, last week, the doctor said I have Breast Cancer. So, I want to clear some things out, to make it easier to keep the house nice."

So young, my goodness...my husband and I both kept our composure and assured her that these days with the modern technology, and since she is so healthy, we assured her she will be fine.

We hugged her before we left.

Walking to our car, 2 beautiful dogs in a huge fenced yard barked happily at us, We told her, she had wonderful body guards..laughing at our comment, she said she loved dogs and moving to the country is great because they were able to adopt these 2 huge dogs and give them a huge area to run and have fun.

Time passes fast. Life keeps us very busy.

A few months ago, that young vibrant young lady that gave so much of herself, did not survive her Breast Cancer.

A life so full of love, so full of giving and plans and hope...gone.

So, when you see someone posting a pink Kaboodle style board, or walking a marathon for the cure , hopefully you will remember this story.

Breast Cancer just happens...it happens to anyone....even to healthy, young, positive people.

She would give me 2 thumbs up for this blog, as I know she wants me to spread the word.

It's difficult to keep up with all of the changes on the net.

But, it's important to stay informed, because if you do not, you will loose out on an exciting experience.

I have really worked hard on keeping up with the new trends and new apps on the net, while creating videos and blogs.

Add keeping my shops on Ruby Lane and Ruby Plaza up to date, so you are looking at a lady that became over whelmed by it all.

So, I took a real break this past summer.

It did affect my public profile, however, it improved my personal daily life.

It helped clear my brain so I can function much better as a blogger, shop owner, and video producer.

I have several future projects on the chalk board that I am very excited about.

One is another blog site, besides this one that deals with the fun things on the net, a blog that's more visual with videos and style boards, while this blog returns to it's regular format of my past as an antique dealer..the stories I know you will enjoy.

Pickers is a fabulous hit show, therefore, I know, those of you that have stayed with my blog since it's beginning, miss my stories of my experiences...so, believe me, within a few months, those stories will once again be the focus on this blog page, while the visuals of videos and style boards will be on my other blog site :-)

So, stay tuned.

Gene Simmons of the rock band, KISS, has finally married his long time love, Shannon Tweed.
I created the style board, not only to commemorate the occasion, but to salute this man, that actually became the image on stage.
To become so famous for an image such as what the band KISS portrayed, is one thing, but to become that larger than life persona in real life is another.
Time does not stop for anyone, and eventually, the Star has to face that reality.
What we see on that stage, is so far from what the individual really is.
It's a business, a huge business. Unfortunately, many stars as famous as Gene Simmons loose themselves in the glow of adoration.
It had to be an awful reality to face.
Even I, would often think to myself, how unreal and truly awesome it would be to face an enormous arena of fans and blow fire while the music hammered into everyone's brains.
2 thumbs up to Gene Simmons for the courage to face a change in his life.
2 thumbs up to realizing his family at long last does come first.

The "Pink Heals" tour will arrive in Jacksonville this morning after making stops in Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, Ga., earlier this week. The tour features pink fire trucks, all of them named for a female battling cancer. Trends come and go in both fashion and life styles.
From what I have seen on the web and in the magazines, antique items are still wonderful treasures to have and cherish, but, vintage is in, because you can use it and wear it.
Recycling is smart.
It saves you money and also prevents over loaded land fills.
So, I reccomend you visit Ruby Plaza....the shop owner son that site, offer new to vintage...it's fabulous place to browse and shop, especially the prices..some are hard to beleive low prices.

In the blink of a eye, love can disappear. No matter how deep the love is felt, one can drift away. So if was for the little red imp, she was so happy so gay. She loved with all her heart, and then he went away. She sat down in the Fairy woods, hugged her knees and bowed her head. As the tears flowed, red roses fell, after all, she was a little red imp fairy you know. Little imps like this one, is not quite a Fairy, instead, she has dear pointed ears and no beautiful flowing hair or wings like the Fairies. But this little red imp knew love so strong, so deep, so real. And so she cried as the roses fell, till she felt a stillness in the air. She lifted her head, and upon her elbow a Cardinal landed. He was a beautiful red bird, red as the roses that fell. But it was his song that cast the spell. The little red imp was still and dazed...the tears stopped flowing as the bird sang. I will not be one of those to listen to the live recordings of that day 10 years ago. I believe in walking forward, and know in my heart that those that have died would want us to do so. I will always remember that day, the moment this event took place. But my heart will remember with love for I know they will be forever alive. As the now famous words, " Let's roll " echos in my mind, I wince with the pain, but, I am an American and therefore I stand strong, proud and determined the enemy has not gained, has not beat me down, has not struck fear in my heart. No, those that are gone are our silent brave ones that we hold in our hearts and enable us to stand united stronger than ever with pride. Steam Punk Fashion a Funeral and Motorcycles

Last Friday, I went to a funeral.

The poor guy was only 47, and not a relative . Instead he was the husband of a relative..oh, it's a long story.
Anyway, my Brother and I were going to go in support of this fellow because although we did not know him well, we figured it's important to be there for family. Well, my brother could not make it after all, but I went.
To give you an idea as to this situation, I asked my brother what the fellow's last name was so I could be sure I was at the right funeral.
These people are very country, so, I did not want to appear as Miss Hollywood, so, I wore a black lace top, black slacks, heels and my jewelry was a rhinestones necklace with a huge sterling cross.
As soon as I pulled up to the funeral home, I realized the fellow must have loved motorcycles because there was a fleet of them, and people in a sea of black, chains and tattoos.
Parked my car, went in, and only knew one person, which is the mother of the widow...the person I really came to see and give a huge hug to..which I did

So, what's this got to do with steam punk ?
As I sat watching the scene around me, I realized that bikers wore steam punk. My eyes opened in amazed surprise and delight.
The best friend of this fellow ( I finally remembered the deceased, thanks to his picture on the inside of his memorial folder ) wore a fab jacket that reminded me of the Nehru jackets of the Beatles era...he had a wonderful maroon beret on , tilt to the side , and this man was a wowow winner..and the main biker of the fleet...chains swinging from his side, instead of mean looking, he had style.
So did the rest of them.
I am still browsing the net enjoying all the steam punk info I can find...one can create steam punk fashion from the things listed in their shops by just regrouping, and re photographing.
I will confess, at this age, motorcycles sound loud and look menacing, but when I was in that age group, they were totally cool.
Steam Punk is dramatic, creative, and a little mean streak to it too, that adds to the presence of the wearer.
Keeping up with change, another key to success when selling on line, or anywhere.
So, my day last Friday started with a funeral of a wonderful giving man, and ended as another view of who today's consumer is....and who wears steam punk fashion, which is a fast growing number of fabulous fashion conscious people...count me as a fan of steam punk.

What I Wore to the Antique Auction Fashion meets Vintage

Labor Day is an important holiday for people who enjoy going to auctions.

I decided to get out of the house this Labor Day and enjoy visiting friends at an antique auction.

What does someone such as myself who loves fashion and bling wear to an auction ?

Comfortable clothes.

The Sketcher shoes shown are old and worn down , I just love them...brought from Zappos eons ago.

The brown top is from Chicos, brought at a local consignment shop, it has cap sleeves, a style I wear instead of tank tops.

The jeans are the usual, my brand for my jeans and slacks is Boston Proper Paris Fit.

The tote and the shoulder strap purse, wow, I have owned them and used them for years, both brought at a local consignment shop a long time ago.

The purse is circa 1970's.

Notice, no diamonds or rhinestones, or even a bracelet, and yet, my jewelry really shows well, is comfortable.

I do not wear diamonds or rhinestones to auctions because of possible damage to the jewelry.

All of the jewelry is vintage..3 necklaces grouped together..heavy but smooth as silk and a joy to wear.

So, even when going to an auction, one can have fashion chic looks without breaking the bank.

The vintage blend, the only thing new item I wore that day was Boston Proper Paris Fit jeans

The search begins especially for women, before the first facial line is seen, time becomes a map.

and then she felt the shiver, and looked over her shoulder, and she saw her image, pure and white as snow, blossums sweet dripping from the shadows...
time stood still.
Her heart slowed it's beat, her eyes fixed in a wide eyed stare...her mind began to think, and as she stared at herself, her journey had it's end.

I have been absent from my favorite on line haunts lately.

I usually visit the ning or social sites every day.

But, so many things have been changing on line, that I decided to try to learn some of these new things.

It all started with the new Face Book changes.

I am very protective of the RC Antiques name, so, I had several Face Books under that name such as RC Antiques on Ruby Lane. I created these face books several years back, and honestly forgot I had the extra accounts till I read about some FB accounts were going to be achieved if there is no activity on them.

Well, Ruby Lane is very important to me.

I think Ruby Lane is a site that has such wonderful ideas as to what shops that sell antique to vintage should be, so, naturally, I had to at least save that one FB account. I needed 25 members...or , " likes ".

I immediately posted my dilemma on my Linda Caricofe FaceBook and within a day, my RC Antiques on Ruby Lane FB was saved, thanks to my many on line friends.

Then, somehow, I happened upon a new type of networking and shopping. I found 2 sites that are really cool.

Polyvore is a beautiful site that is basically fashion. I am still learning the tools of that site. Notice the New York graphics below this blog. I created that using Polyvore's tools.

But the site that really captured my attention is Kaboodle.

It's a site that is for shoppers, and for people to showcase some of the items they sell.

I will caution sellers though, that Kaboodle is very sensitive to spam, so, you must be careful if you join that site just to promote your items...be sure you read the rules before posting.

I joined it as a get away retreat. I do create style boards with some of my items on them, but, I create many style boards just for the fun of creating something beautiful or something fun.

The link to the style board below is one you will enjoy...although it looks like you have to cut and paste the link, you should be able to just click on it and you will see my mermaid style board, I promise your eyes will smile, and your mouth will say, wow

I will tell you this, once you learn how to create a style board, you will be hooked..it is so much fun.

Loose yourself in FaceBook Twitter beware

Twitter has always been one of my favorite apps. In the beginning, I enjoyed my twitter friends.

We would try to meet at certain times in the evening and have fun banter.

Then, more people joined my Twitter page and next thing you know, it became a networking page for my shops, and I can actually shop and do shop, off my Twitter page.

Realizing this was a fabulous tool for getting my on line shop found, I turned my attention to my FaceBook page.

Now, I can enjoy shopping right there on my FaceBook page, it's wonderful.

When I say shop, most of it is browsing, but I have made many purchases from the ones that have joined both my twitter page and Face Book pages.

It's not easy to keep up with all this, but I try.

Here's an important thing to consider when you get as deep into these pages as I have. Be selective. Don't just accept a follower because they asked...instead, look at what they post and how much. Some followers fill up your whole page, that's not good because your other followers and you too, will be left out.

Have a nice variety of followers...if someone asks to follow you that is not in the same business as you, but is interesting, you should let them follow you and you should follow or " like
" back.

I also love the way FaceBook lets me know when someone comments on my page, and with just a click I can comment back...Twitter does that too, as a mention app, but, somehow, FaceBook does it better...or, I can understand how to follow " the thread " on FaceBook better.

Seems like everything has changed..such as, instead of conversation, comments are threads...who thinks up this stuff LOL.

Now, FaceBook is evolving into a world, a galaxy itself.

Although I will always enjoy that button that allows me to post a link on Twitter with just a click , FaceBook is becoming my " water cooler " place to talk.

FaceBook and that " Like " button is truly awesome...naturally I would say that, because, I like a lot of things, always have

Time to let go of this item, so, I listed it in my Ruby Plaza shop.

The face behind the networking RC Antiques revealed

I have been on the Internet since 1997.

In those days, I listed items on ebay that were from our collections and the estates we would buy.

I was simply, rcantiques. It was only natural to have my email under that name and so forth.

Eventually , I also used RC Linda when signing some emails etc.

I am not college educated, just the average Joe..or, should I just refer to myself as the average person since I am a lady, not a Joe.

I've come a long ways.

Not due to survival in these hard economic times, but, due to

my unquenchable thirst to surf the net.

And therefore , as the years went by, and as I became more comfortable with the net, I began to use my face as my trademark.

It was a bold move.

But, I wanted be become human, instead of a name or market or commercial.

This move has worked well for my on line shops, RC Antiques on Ruby Lane and RC Antiques Too on Ruby Plaza, because it's nice to see who one is buying from.

I also think it has helped my blog and my videos.

My most hit videos are the ones that have myself as host, instead of the ones I enjoy creating with OneTrueMedia.

Now, let's look at today's world on the net, compared to let's say, 2 years ago.

My hard work has actually created a barrier when I want to just enjoy myself on the net.

When I join a site, due to my name, RC Antiques, or Linda Caricofe, some sites either wonder why I joined, or , some think perhaps I am lurking, trying to learn things from the site...and if I am not extremely careful, and I should underline the word careful, my name can sound like spam.

Sites that are not vintage or antiques related, are fabulous if one such as myself can fit in...even FaceBook has become sensitive to net workers or business names.

Remember the old saying, " darned if I do, darned if I don't ", yep, that seems to be my predicament.

I have come up with the idea of creating different avatars using my image, to fit whatever site I want to join.

So, when you are surfing the net, and see various different images of ole RC, believe me, it's not for vanity's sake...it's ole RC trying to remind the public, this RC is just the average person, not a company.

The Internet, fascinating how something so advanced, can actually be so difficult to get around.

So, time to get downstairs and stand in front of that mean camera and take some more photos. The older one gets, the meaner the camera is , and at this point, I am about ready to name one of my mannequins, RC :-)

Me and Kaboodle and the Styleboard

Everyone needs a place to go to relax.

These days you do not even have to leave home to relax.

Although my work is on my computer, I also relax on the computer too.

I am a hopeless addict to games, the puzzle games such as BeDazzle or Zuma...so, I do not allow myself that indulgence because I simply will not leave those games alone LOL.

So, I have found another way to enjoy sharing what I find on the net.

It's a site called Kaboodle.

Now, first of all, before all sellers that follow me become excited over this site, I do need to warn you that Kaboodle is very very sensitive to spam.

So, if you decide to go there for the sole purpose of networking your shop, you must study the guidelines and not promote your shop on a grand scale...instead, do so, discreetly.

I enjoy Kaboodle as my get away from it all.

I save things I find on the net, and create what's referred to as a style board with those things.

Then, I post the link on FaceBook and Twitter.

I do add some of my things to a style board, but, my things are usually mixed with other things on one board.

The King of the Ning Social Site or The Granddaddy of them all

I enjoy creating videos.

The videos that actually show me talking do take a lot of time to create.

Many of them never posted because they just were not my best.

Then, somehow, I discovered a neat tool , OneTrueMedia.

If you have family photos of your vacation and so forth, this tool is easy to use , free, and so much fun.

I use it to showcase items I sell in my shops.

I have a youtube channel..subscribe to it and enjoy my latest videos as soon as I post them..no, I do not post new videos every day, but, when I do post one, you will enjoy it.

You will also notice on my video channel that I have formed RC Antiques Productions to list all of the videos under...not a big deal, just neat to finally have a name for them to be placed under.

My affair with the Like Button

Years ago while out antiquing for treasures, I happened up a huge cup.

It was an antique transferware mush cup. The image was a man's face smiling insanely, with the words around the rim of the cup, " I like it, I like a lot "

I can remember thinking to myself, yep, that's me, I like it, in fact I do like a lot.

As an daily Internet surfer, I still like a lot.

Only in this technological age, I can let the world know when I like something, with just a click of the button.

And, that button is always there, like a beacon, as though to say, " come on, you know you like me "..and click, there's my answer , " yes I do ! "

The other day I decided to manually post a video link on my Face Book page, instead of the usual click, " add to face book " button.

I stared at my face book page a long time, and it became apparent to me, that it had a new appearance, due to my , " I like " addiction to the like button without thought as to what or who will see it.

I was amazed that I saw so many things in one day.

Then, at the same time, I realized my Face Book page became a networking page , the same as my Twitter page.

Well, at first I was so shocked to see I had been out of touch while surfing and liking all the things wonderful things I see.

And then, I thought to myself, that's me.

Plain and simple.

I search the net as though looking for the knowledge of how things are and were and will be to come, and when I see something worth noting, I like it.

It's a huge world sitting there in front of me on my desk. All of it contained in a thing that looks like a TV screen.

I suppose I am at a cross roads now.

I think to myself, my my, what should I do now.

I have made so many friends on the net that are on my Face Book page and ning sites, social sites and so forth that perhaps I have become like a commercial.

And then, I think to myself, I will stop this right now, no more clicking that like button,

but, no, it's too late.

Because, I honestly do like a lot and loving every minute of it.

The Internet world is a huge Universe, full of knowledge, beautiful things and adventures too.

Full of friendships of people whose hands you will never touch and yet fills your heart with that emotion called friendship .
And so, no wonder I like it, in fact, I more than like it.
Let's add a " I love it " button :-)

Auction season hits and miss online and off

This is the third part of the auction blog series.

Today's blog is about auctions found on line.

Not the kind of online auctions such as ebay, no, I am talking about on site auctions.

You can find on site auctions near you by going to Auction Zip.

Attending auctions is a wonderful way to spend a week end.

Most of the auctions listed on Auction Zip will have photos of some of the items that will be offered at the auction that day.

Some auction houses that list auctions on auction zip, also show photos of the lay out of the auction, if the auction will be held at the auction house.

If you go to your local auctions regularly, you will find familiar faces and make some auction friends. Auction friends are people that enjoy going to auctions.

Auction bidding wars don't arm yourself with a paddle

I love estate auctions. Spring till fall, the best deal auctions are on site.

My previous blog, listed below this one, gives tips for the on site auctions.

This blog is part 2.

The bidding war.

A bidding war can be found on all auctions, be they on line, or at an in person auction.

I can remember an on site auction I attended many years ago.

It was in a small town a few miles from where I live.

The people lived there since their marriage, which would amount to items

accumulating in the house since around 1930.

Rows up on rows of box lots loaded with things you seldom see these days.

Tables full of glassware, which in those days, was a very hot item.

The auctioneer had supplied flat tabletop showcases to protect choice smalls. Oh my, the things in those showcases, you just do not see things like that these days.

And the linens and quilts...wow, wonderful, and they brought very high prices.

But, on to the point of this blog.

The bidding war.

I was in the crowd watching as they held up one wonderful quilt after another.

One particular quilt was held up, the bidding began, and continued to rise at a steady pace.

It was a nice quilt, but, not rare, so, I looked to see who wanted this quilt so badly to bid so high.

The lady was leaning against a tree in a casual pose, holding her bidding number high in the air, and I do mean high, her arm was held up as though in a school room wanting to be picked to give an answer to a question.

She stood there with a determined look on her face. That look, and that pose, created a bidding war.

It alerted everyone, all minds were set on outbidding that determined lady. People jumped in on the bid that had no intention of bidding on that quilt in the first place, but, because of that lady's " this is mine " stance, the war was fierce. She got her quilt, but she paid too much as far as the true value.

The back bidder was a little fellow I will always remember, his name was Charlie, a short little fellow with a Dutch accent.

Charlie was known to jump in on bidders such as that lady, as though it was his hobby.

When the bidding was over, he walked up to the lady who was a complete stranger to him , and proclaimed to her, " you paid too much ", and with that, would strut proudly away.

Charlie was a very knowledgeable antique dealer, but, he enjoyed bidding wars, and had the knack of knowing who to pick as a competitor, and knew when to stop, so he could do his strut, and proclamation, " you paid too much ".

Valuable lesson learned. When bidding, be discreet. If the item you are bidding on is popular and the bidding becomes insistent, remember your original price you were willing to pay for the item. Do not get caught up in the competitive excitment of the bidding.

Easier said then done.

I do not go to auctions much anymore, however, when I do, I remind myself while bidding, how much would I pay for this item if I saw it in a shop. That has helped me avoid the bidding war.

I will also confess, there have been times I have paid more than the value of the item, but, if the item is for my collection, my enjoyment, and an item not easily found, yes, paying the extra cost has always been worth it.

The bidding war, arm yourself wisely.

And remember, book price is the bids totals reported nationwide averaged that year of auctions and in shops...and many times , that book price is due to a bidding war.
As proof of this statement, a good many years ago, an antique Uncle Sam dressed as Santa Claus postcard brought , ( if I remember correctly ) over $ 6,000. The picture of the postcard was on the back cover of Mash's postcard reference book that year. And, the amount was due to a bidding war.
Although a very rare card indeed, it would take another auction with at least 2 high end postcard collectors at war for the card to generate that price again.

Auction season on site estates sales insider secrets

Almost everyone loves an auction.

But, this is the time of year that auction fans love most.

Why? Because the auctions that take place on site ( at the estate home ), are not organized. The auctioneer's helpers move the things outside and sometimes will miss an important item that may be hidden in a box lot. That is the kind of auction that you can really get lucky, or not.

Tip number 1

Check your auction listings early. The on line site to do this is,

Tip number 2

Get to the auction at least 1 to 2 hours early. This is a must do. When you get there early, you avoid the long line to sign up for your bidding number. You find a good place to park, and you are able to examine everything, everywhere at the auction site.

Tip number 3

If possible, take someone with you. When you are a winning bidder, it is your reasonability to guard the things you just got. No matter where you are, there's always someone that just might take your items while you are busy bidding on more things. This could happen accidentally, or on purpose, either way, once you stuff is gone, you still have to pay for it.

Oh, and wear a hat, it gets hot under the sun.

John & Lesia got married wedding video

John , is a professional wrestler .

He manages the NWL Wrestling School in Hagerstown Md.

I create videos for the NWL to promote their wrestling events under RC Antiques Productions.

Not too long ago , John came to me and told me he was in love with a woman that lived in N. Carolina.

He asked if I could create a video for him to email his marriage proposal to his love.

There were no photos of them together to use because it was a long distance via email relationship. So, I had photos of John on file due to promoting videos for the wrestling events.

John photographed his hands to use in the video , because he was asking for her hand in marriage.

That is so romantic.

After the video was created , I emailed it to John, and he in turn, emailed it to her.

She not only accepted, but drove up here to get married !

This was a fabulous romantic event.

No wedding , but, I told them to come over to the house, and I will take the photos and create a wedding album video for them.

When I saw them after they married , I was amazed to see, they really are the perfect match ! They look as though they always were together.

Sometimes, one waits many many years till the right person comes along, and when they do, it's instant recognition..the meeting of true love as though it really is fate.

I am the average middle age forever young person with average knowledge of the computer.

I have been selling on line since 1997.

I made sure I had my domain name as soon as I learned what it meant. In those days , domains were a huge issue...and I think anyone that has a business on line should have one.

Anyway , finally this year , I decided to create my web page or site. It was time to branch out , add another notch to the RC Antiques machine.

Easier said than done.

Although I create videos , and have the know how to create unusual photos of the items I sell , creating a web page was an absolute horror.

Many headaches...many times calling myself dummy dummy, hopefully , some of you that read my blogs will understand my frustration.

Yes, I tried those user friendly web site designers and flunked the course on each one till I happened upon Weebly , thanks to The Vintage Village site recommending it to me.

This is not a paid ad.

Remember , anytime I recommend something , I do it , to share what I have found , in the hopes of helping you avoid the headaches of trying things over and over again :-)

I still have my shops on Ruby Lane and Ruby Plaza , but , I wanted that third branch , a trio.

I surf the Internet everyday.

My computer is my ship, I travel the huge Internet galaxy in search of treasures , fabulous shops, and new ideas.

I've been surfing since 1997 and have learned a lot without sitting in a school room waiting for the class to be over so I can escape to the real world.

In the old days, promoting was the term, in the computer age, it's marketing.

That means, to make it, you have to show the world the image you want to project.

Here's an example of excellent marketing.

Remember the 7 - 11 stores. They were the place to be, but, they never changed...along comes Sheetz, and whammo...the retro look, the drive through appeal, and well, I think there's a Sheetz on the East Coast just about everywhere.

Another Success story is Target. They have the very best commercials... it was not the merchandise that made you want to go, or the prices, it was those fabulous commercials.

While hunting the net for vintage costume jewelry, I happened upon Glamtown Vintage on Etsy. I noticed she has a video channel. I subscribed because I really enjoyed the format.

The video you see below this blog is her latest video. I think it is fantastic. It's happy, fun, good ole USA American cars, and cheesecake sexy too...and I LOVE the photo that shows those tattoos are from a magic marker....whoever the person is that posed for this video is a natural....and if it is the shop owner herself , I say, make what you have work for you, and you do :-)

Marketing yourself is marketing your shop or, your business...be it even just making videos , a shop to sell things, or a services business.

Find your image that fits what you do, and you will have a hit

Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds always brings luck you are forever the diamond

Elizabeth Taylor , has left life behind.

I heard someone mention Joan Rivers saying something like this,

* rich

* beautiful

* long life

* surrounded by family in the end

Where do I sign up ?

Words well put.

And yet , although I know the beautiful rich Elizabeth Taylor had a long life, one never expects to hear, her life is no more.

So, instead of many photos on this blog , and instead of listing all of the wonderful movies and charities , I will say what I will miss about her.

You never knew what she man she would love next. It was exciting. And , she was a dare devil in the love department that had us all gasping , oh my ! So much fun to gasp at Elizabeth's rumps in the love department, her life a fascinating soap opera.

Her jewels , my eyes will miss her jewels. She wore them well.

And, the commercial for White Diamonds perfume will forever be etched in my mind. There she was , a lovely soft focus vision, tossing the diamond earrings to the table, with the statement, " here, these always brought me luck "...the voice sultry , and those eyes , even in the soft focus lens , the eyes of the true Hollywood Movie Star Queen.

And so I say , long live the Queen, she will forever be our jewel

Dedicated to Mickey Caricofe Daddy's Little Boy

My name is Mickey.

I was found late one night 16 years ago.

I was so hungry. I heard a friendly voice call to me, " here little kitty kitty." The voice was so friendly, I just knew she would not hurt me.

And I was right. I considered her my lucky charm..but, it was her husband I considered my angel.

I am Daddy's little boy. We became instant buddies. I loved his voice, the way he carried me. He knew how to give me my snacks. Daddy just had that special touch.

I've seen a lot of changes here in is house through the years.

She rescued a rascal and this house has never been the same. She named him Ozzie Cat , and yeah, he acts and looks crazy like ole Ozzie Osborn.

But , that's O.K. cause she needed a pal too. Although I loved her, she knew, I am Daddy's little boy.

Time does something to you. Life is good, but, as time goes on, going up steps becomes a chore rather than fun.

Daddy made small steps up to the sideboard in front of the picture window where I love to lay all day. Next thing you know, there's steps here and there in the house, just for me. It's great.

But, like I said, time does something to you. This past year, even the steps made for me, were not fun anymore.

I'm tired. Not tired of living, just tired. I tried to be strong, but, I heard a wonderful voice yesterday. It almost sounded like the voice I heard when I was found.

But, this voice was distant, and I saw a beautiful light , while hearing a voice in song. It's wonderful, because although my heart wants to panic because I can't quite stand up anymore, I feel safe.

So, it's been 16 years. And, I'm so sleepy.

Notice this is written in presence tense.

That's because even though Mom knows that I am drawing my last breath at the vet, with Dad holding me in his arms , I am still Mickey, Daddy's little boy...only now, I am cozy and peaceful in an another angel's arms.

And the voice with the song is a sweet lullaby.
